Hotel Casa del Mar

Located beachside in Santa Monica CA, the Hotel Casa del Mar, built in a Renaissance Revival style, originally opened in 1926 as Club Casa del Mar. After years of decline, the building was purchased in 1997 by the Edward Thomas Hospitality Corporation. After a $50 million dollar plus renovation, the historic landmark was restored to its original glory and the doors re-opened in October 1999.

While much of the building exterior remained intact with its brick-and-sandstone facade, red-tile roof and iron balconies, little of the interior architectural details and furnishings remained. Working from limited photographic archives the architecture and design teams worked to recreate the spirit of the 1920s era. The New York design team collaborated with Los Angeles based interior designers, Darrell Schmitt Design Associates and Cheryl Rowley Design to imbue the hotel experience with the luxury and refinement of a stately seaside retreat.
